[Gender]: Female

..:.:[ World ]:.:..

The world Brietta comes from is an alternate Earth set in what we would consider the modern era. Therefore the same cultures, technology, countries, pop culture, etc that are found in our own world could also be found in hers. The most striking difference between the two is the existence of magic and all manner of otherworldy creatures. This includes but is not limited to vampires, fae, demons, witches, wizards, trolls, dwarves, and zombies. Pretty much if it's a creature with some lore written about it the it actually exists there. There are nuances to each species as each variety has developed their own set of codes and traditions. Years could be spent devoted to studying all these species and still one would feel they had much more to learn. It's a complex environment.

Although magic can be more common place it does not mean that everyone in the various societies approves of it, or believes in it's existence. There are plenty of average humans who would be only to glad to outlaw the use of the magical arts entirely and who would expel those that were anything more than human right out of their communities. Conversely, this prejudice works both ways. The magical community also holds a certain number of those that look down upon average humans and sees them as filth or lesser beings. In between you have creatures or humans that understand that in order to coexist there must be patience, understanding, and open communication. It is possible for supernatural beings to be hired for the same sorts of jobs regular humans can but the less humanoid you are the trickier it becomes to find one. It's must easier to discriminate against an ogre, than it is to identify a witch on sight alone. The police departments of some select countries have seen the merit in employing magical folk for their investigations and often they will dedicate at least one branch for just that purpose.

Speaking of law enforcement, there are some organizations in place to monitor the magical community and administer retribution for actions deemed unlawful or an overstepping of power. There are ways to restrict a person's ability to cast magic, and of course a person can see jail time or be put on probation.

In order for the more magical to receive an untraditional education, magical schools have been erected in various locations. Some of which are hidden in pocket dimensions for security purposes, and they are often hidden behind wards and spells. Safety of students is a priority, and it is only for rare occasions that those that are not enrolled are allowed to step on the grounds. Many will allow humans to attend as the core curriculum you'd find in a normal school is still required, so if you thought you could avoid math class, forget it, Admissions are on a case by case basis.

..:.:[ History (Bullet Points) ]:.:..

* The earliest memory Brietta has of her childhood was finding herself abandoned on the streets of an Irish town, with only the clothes on her back and a velvet bag containing stones with symbols carved into them.

* Strangely, she does not remember who her parents were.

* Her magic manifested at a young age, and she attributes her survival to that magic. Her powers she found out were linked to the aforementioned runes. In order to cast a spell she has to procure a rune from the bag. Each one initiates a different result and she never knows which one she'll draw. This power is linked somewhat to the confidence of the castor but it's not something she's aware of at this time.

* She became a thief starting with basic necessities, then moving up to higher ticket items. On one particular heist she happened to steal something special, something unique. It was another magical item, and from then on she decided to seek those out specifically. Later she worked with an accomplice and they sold the items they stole to the black market. Sydney was the name of her partner, a shape-shfter.

* She later ditched Sydney because he wasn't the most subtle thief in the world.

* At a period where Brietta thought she had her system all worked out, she was nearly caught by her mark. The mark happened to be someone you didn't really want to get on the wrong side of. Having barely escaped, she then sought refuge in a magical school. There she encountered so many types of people she had never seen before, and it really opened her eyes. She also met a variety of people who influenced her life.

* After years of thinking she was a human (just your average witch) she found out that she's actually a Sidhe. She hasn't told anyone about it yet and is completely adrift with what to do with that knowledge or what it means for her.

* Now she's been ripped away from the people she cares about and she's been dropped in a new world.

..:.:[ Personality ]:.:..

Brietta is inquisitive, terribly indecisive, and a bit socially awkward. She's never sure if she's saying the right thing, doing the right thing, or adhering to the cultural norms. It's something she stresses over from time to time as she would prefer not to commit a heinous faux pas. Part of this stems from her humble roots. Being an orphan and living on the streets didn't grant her many opportunities to learn much about the world and even if it's silly she feels like if she isn't up on her common societal practices then somehow people will just know about her past and will revile her for it. One of her greatest fears is to be abandoned again. To feel that utter sense of hopelessness, isolation, and rejection. Relating to those issues, she holds resent for her parents even though she's not even sure who they are. Despite her aversion there is a part of her that really would like to know who they are and why they left her.

As a preference she prefers to dress in fancier attire. If you want to blend in with another class then you have to dress the part! Also the further she can remove herself from the past, the better. She holds a weakness for those who come across as well dressed, poised or suave.

Magic is a subject of interest for her. Her powers manifested early on, but it's taking plenty of time to learn more about the intricacies. She attributes her survival to the craft and therefore would like to learn as much about her own magic and the other varieties out there as possible.

It's easy for Brietta to feel out of place or embarrassed. You want to knock her off her game? The quickest way is to pay her a compliment. Seriously, she does not know what to do with one when she receives it. Used to trying to blend into the background she's not used to taking center stage even if it's only for a moment. Brietta is slow to anger save for a few select triggers. If there's one thing she can't stand it's chauvinist pigs or those who speak ill of the magical arts. Rather than a full on explosion she tends to resort to sarcasm, pouting, or rolling her eyes. Oftentimes if she feels what she said was too hurtful then she will regret it later even if she still thinks she was in the right.

As a friend she can be loyal and protective, but she is slow to open up about herself or share her innermost thoughts. Even if someone irritates her, she tends to still talk to them and can usually find some good in them. Brietta does like to have fun (who doesn't!?) and although hesitant at times is willing to try new things. She might have been a thief but she's still a teenage girl with teenage problems. She's an abysmal cook, but not bad ad handicrafts. She likes to draw though she tends to have little time to do i

Since she took up residence by a certain magical school, she's had more opportunities to meet all manner of supernatural beings and has opened herself up more to the idea of forging friendships. It's been practically unavoidable with the people she met there. In The Darkness, it's likely to be a bit easier to get herself out there since there's essentially no way to know the cultural elements of the worlds the other refugees are from, so even if you make a mistake it's totally justified! Plus, it's a great way to hide from any pursuers- just go to another dimension entirely!

..:.:[ Abilities ]:.:..

Brietta‘s magical power lies in her runes. When she needs to cast a spell of any kind all she needs to do is concentrate on the situation at hand and cast one of the runes. Each rune has it’s own effects, which leaves plenty of spells at her disposal. The drawback being that this rune casting relies a great deal on chance, and her confidence levels at the time. Being a very unsure person she often casts the wrong rune. She can also use the runes for guidance in rune readings.
